Cervical Cancer and Smear tests

During Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, we want to remind you how you can reduce your risk of the disease. You should be invited for cervical screening every 3 years if you have a cervix and are between 25 to 49 years old and every 5 years if you are between 50 and 64 years old. Women are usually born with a cervix.

Trans men, non-binary and intersex people may also have one.At BHWC we run a trans health hub and we have additional processes in place to ensure we invite our male patients who may have a cervix.

You may be unsure whether the pandemic means attending your cervical screening is a priority, well yes, it is! We are still carrying out smear tests and we would encourage you to attend if you have received an invitation. The easiest way to book your appointment is online using systemonline or via the airmid app. If you do not know your login details you can request them here

BHWC Covid-19 Vaccination Progress - Week 2

  • Cohort 1 - Care Homes - Completed
  • Cohort 2 - Over 80s - Completed
  • Cohort 2 - Frontline Health and Care Workers - Current
  • Cohort 3 - Over 75s - Starting this week
  • Cohort 4 - Over 70s - Not yet started

We are working extremely hard to book all our BHWC patients into the Portslade Health Centre (PHC) vaccination hub. Thank you for being patient whilst we work our way down the cohorts.

We will continue to give you regular updates by email, via the website and this newsletter. We will receive our next supply of Pfizer vaccinations at PHC on Monday 18th January and we will be vaccinating from 8am to 8pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Please do not phone the surgery with covid vaccine related questions; Our receptionists do not have all the answers and the lines are terribly busy. You should find all the information required on our website Covid Update, in our article The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine FAQ or if you have a different question you can submit a question within the FAQ article.
